How to replace a sequence of characters with another sequence using formulas
This clip will show you how to use the SUBSTITUTE formula in Excel. This is useful if you want to replace a sequence of characters with another sequence of characters.
This Mhelp clip has twenty-five steps.
1 - Click cell A3.
2 - Type in the text you want to substitute.
3 - Click cell B3.
4 - Type in the text to replace.
5 - Click cell C3.
6 - Type the new text to use.
7 - Click cell D3.
8 - Click the occurrence number you want to replace.
9 - Click the cell where you want to display the answer.
10 - Click the Formulas tab.
11 - Click Text. A menu will appear.
12 - Click SUBSTITUTE. A dialog box will appear.
13 - Click the Text button.
14 - Click cell A3.
15 - Click the formula button.
16 - Click the Old_text button.
17 - Click cell B3.
18 - Click the formula button.
19 - Click the New_text button.
20 - Click cell C3.
21 - Click the formula button.
22 - Click the Instance_num button.
23 - Click cell D3.
24 - Click the formula button.
25 - Click OK. The answer will be displayed in the cell selected.
