How to replace a text string with a number of characters replaced using formulas
This Mhelp clip will show you how to use the REPLACE formula in Excel. This is useful if you are working with text strings.
This Mhelp clip has twenty-five steps.
1 - Click cell A3.
2 - Type in the text you want to replace.
3 - Click cell B3.
4 - Type the starting character number.
5 - Click cell C3.
6 - Type the number of characters to replace.
7 - Click cell D3.
8 - Type the new text to use.
9 - Click the cell where you want to display the answer.
10 - Click the Formulas tab.
11 - Click Text. A menu will appear.
12 - Click REPLACE. A dialog box will appear.
13 - Click the Old_text button.
14 - Click cell A3.
15 - Click the formula button.
16 - Click the Start_num button.
17 - Click cell B3.
18 - Click the formula button.
19 - Click the Num_chars button.
20 - Click cell C3.
21 - Click the formula button.
22 - Click the New_text button.
23 - Click cell D3.
24 - Click the formula button.
25 - Click OK. The answer will be displayed in the cell selected.
